As Sheriff, Andrea Cabral understands the diversity of this City and the implications this has on the corrections system. She works hard to outreach and understand the communities she is serving which is truly refreshing. Sheriff Cabral is receptive to new ideas and approaches and is pro-active in figuring out ways to improve our corrections systems and make our city more safe. She has been a trail blazer in ensuring a culturally competent environment within the corrections department, something that was much needed given the demographics of the City of Boston. What really sets Sherriff Cabral apart is the very human approach she has towards her job. She sincerely cares about the effects of the inmates and victim’s families and the impact the offenders will have in our society once they come out. She’s tough and forthright yet accessible and effective. We’re proud to have her as our Sheriff.
