Brasfield to lead Cabral re-election campaign

Dorchester native Freda Brasfield has been tapped to manage Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral's re-election campaign. Brasfield is the Regional Coordinator for Mayor Thomas Menino's Office of Neighborhood Services and will take a leave of absence beginning Friday, October 1.

Cabral has known Brasfield for several years and said her smarts, energy and credentials motivated her to offer the job. "Freda's fantastic with a well-deserved reputation for getting the job done right. She's a saavy political veteran, fast on her feet and a perfect choice to lead this campaign."

A longtime political activist and community organizer, Brasfield has worked on campaigns for Presidents Obama and Clinton, the late Senator Edward Kennedy, Governor Deval Patrick, Mayor Menino and numerous local races.

Brasfield wants to make sure Suffolk County voters hear Cabral's message. "I'm very excited about the opportunity to work with the Sheriff," said Freda Brasfield. "She motivates, inspires and sets such a great example for what can be accomplished in political office. Suffolk County's communities have benefited greatly from the programs and initiatives that have been developed under her leadership."

As the Dorchester/Mattapan Regional Coordinator for the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, Brasfield supervises the delivery of services from city departments and works to maximize citizen engagement in all aspects of government through service requests, neighborhood meetings and emergency responses. Brasfield also acts as a primary contact for constituent services for city residents.

Prior to her role within the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, she worked as a construction monitor for the Boston Residents Jobs Policy Office, where she enforced Boston's resident, minority and female hiring goals. She has also worked as an accounting manager for the Massachusetts Electrical Contractors Association and is a member of the NAACP.
